Gateway of Africa was developed through collaboration by two companies, Wrasse Records and Division X.
Wrasse Records specialise in eclectic music; such as Ladysmith Black Mambazo,
Angelique Kidjo and Ismael Lo; The company saw a gap in the market for a comprehensive
site about African music. There was a need to categorise the music both by country and genre.
