Led by guitarist Shem Tube, Abana ba Nasery (the Nursery Boys) were a hugely popular group in the '60s and '70s. Founded in the early '60s, what Abana ba Nasery offered was omutibo: a rhythmic sound provided by two guitars, accompanying beat on a soda bottle, and three-part harmonies. With the advent of world music releases on CD, Abana ba Nasery garnered wide attention through releases including an 1989 self-titled effort and 1991's Nursery Boys Go Ahead. — Leon Jackson |
