| Review: | This album was released to celebrate the 10th anniversary of
Mandela’s release from prison . A tribute to South African
music during the 4 decades starting from the year when he
was imprisoned in the 1960’s through to the current day.
The album starts with the Specials track “Free Nelson
Mandela” which became the anthem of the 80’s
synonymous with the fight to get Nelson freed from
Prison. What follows is a who’s who of South African music
over the last 4 decades. 35 tracks featuring Ladysmith
Black Mambazo, Miriam Makeba, Manhattan Brothers, Soul
Brothers, African Jazz Pioneers and Jabu Khanyile. The
album finishes with a brand new Ladysmith Black Mambazo
track “Congratulations South Africa”, specially written for
Nelson Mandela, has become the central part of their live
show and recent promo appearances.
